painting was a purely Dutch genre. Among the earliest such works was Adam Willaerts's
Fish Market on the Seashore. The artist depicted the harsh North Sea and flat shore being
approached by a sailing vessel proudly flying the flag of the United Provinces. Soft pale
blue and grey hues predominate in the painting. |
